May 2008
My name has been passed to someone who runs a magazine here and she wants me to write an article on English pubs. And I will get paid in real Yen money!
We make contact and I write the article. I asked some friends to proofread it for me as I find it impossible to step back far enough to proof my own work. Once done, and with some excellent editing and advice from an internet friend, I nervously sent off the article.
Sometime later – it's a quarterly magazine, I believe – I received a copy of a very thick magazine through the post. The editor had thoughtfully bookmarked my article with a thank you letter.
My article has been turned into a four page spread!
The magazine is called "Owl Post" and is a Harry Potter fan magazine. My article has been translated into Japanese (but you can just make out my name on the first page) and formatted into proper vertical, right to left Japanese. I think it looks incredible, even though I have no idea what it says compared to my original English version.
I don't mind as I got a huge kick from this layout.
