The murder of this beautiful young lady struck the expat community with great force at the end of March 2007.
It is impossible to imagine the pain and suffering her family are experiencing to this day.
Many people believe Japan to be an extremely safe place to be, and for 99% of the time it is. But very occasionally, and tragically, that 1% hits the gaijin community hard.
Posters of the accused were placed all over Tokyo and his face stared from English language magazines everywhere, but unbelievably, he seemed to have disappeared off the face of the earth. How was this possible? Rumours abounded - he'd killed himself, he was being helped by friends, he'd left the country and so on.
Much to everyone's relief he was finally apprehended in November 2009. When we heard, we wondered if it was true as the numerous false leads and sightings had been going on for some time. We were very glad he'd been caught and arrested and will go to trial. This is something we await with great interest as the legal system here is very different from the British system.
Much has been said and written and I can add no more.
To my surprise, an entire Wikipedia page has been written about Lindsey. It makes for disturbing reading, so only click if you are prepared for all the details.
May Lindsey rest in peace and I wish her family much strength and support. They are always in my thoughts.
